Clarke papers, 1941-1960.

Biographical and autobiographical manuscripts, correspondence and printed material concerning Clarke's experiences. The reminiscences contain an account of the 1920 killing of Alexander and John Fraser, who wereproprietors of a Ruby, Ariz. store. There are references to area mining operations, cattle ranches, and prominent landowners in the Arivaca area. Correspondence relates to Roscoe Willson's research for a Clarke biography which appeared in the Arizona Cattlelog, December 1955, and an article on the Fraser killings for a 1956 Arizona Republic issue. Other materials concern Clarke's ranching and banking business.

Roscoe George Willson was born in Granite Falls, Minnesota, July 13, 1879. His family moved to the Dakota Territory in 1881. During the construction of the Great Northern Railroad Roscoe's father ran a farm machinery business and started the Pembina County Democratic Weekly Newspaper. Roscoe graduated from high school in Bathgate, North Dakota at the age of 16 and began working at his father's newspaper. In 1898 Roscoe went to Minneapolis to work in his uncle's printing plant.
